Choosing the right troops can make a big difference in Command an Army. While every unit has its own role, some troops are much more useful than others once you start fighting stronger enemies and other players. This tier list ranks the available units based on their rarity, usefulness, and overall value in battle.

There are currently units ranging from one-star troops all the way to four-star units. Higher rarity usually means a unit is harder to obtain, but rarity alone does not always decide which troop is best for your army.

Command an Army Unit Tier List

S Tier Units

S Tier is reserved for units that currently stand above most of the roster. These units are highly effective, provide strong value, and can perform extremely well when used correctly.

  • Falinks – One of the strongest units in the current roster. Its overall performance makes it an easy S Tier pick and one of the units worth considering for serious gameplay.
  • Top Ranger Units – Some of the stronger ranged units can compete for the top spot thanks to their damage and range. They are especially useful for players who enjoy building armies around ranged attacks.

The strongest S Tier choices are generally the units that can contribute consistently instead of only being useful in a very specific situation.

A Tier Units

A Tier units are not quite as dominant as the S Tier options, but they are still excellent choices. Many of them can perform extremely well and are worth using in a large number of situations.

  • Morningstar – A very strong newer unit with impressive stats and good overall performance. It is also obtained by evolving the Mace, making the progression worthwhile.
  • Advanced Halberd – A stronger version of the regular Halberd and a reliable choice for players looking for a solid frontline unit.
  • Advanced Pikeman – Another upgraded unit that performs well compared with its basic version.
  • Stronger Long-Range Evolution – The upgraded version of the basic Archer is considerably more useful and deserves a higher placement.
  • Lancer – This unit was previously one of the most dominant choices in the game. It remains strong, although newer counters have made it less reliable than before.
  • Samurai – One of the better four-star units and a dependable option for players who want a balanced melee fighter.
  • Strong Heavy Unit – A unit with high health, good damage, and useful charging potential. It can perform surprisingly well when given enough room to operate.

A Tier is where many of the reliable units sit. They might not completely dominate every match, but they rarely feel like a wasted slot.

B Tier Units

B Tier units are generally usable and can be effective, but they have clear weaknesses compared with higher-ranked choices. Some are limited by map design, while others are simply outperformed by their upgraded versions.

  • Mongol Horse Archer – This unit can be very effective on open maps such as Planes, where it has more room to attack. Unfortunately, buildings and narrow areas on other maps can limit its effectiveness.
  • Mortal – A decent unit that is not particularly bad, but also does not stand out enough to reach the higher tiers. Its rarity and difficulty to obtain do not necessarily translate into top-tier performance.
  • Mace – A fairly average unit that becomes much more interesting after evolving into Morningstar.
  • Halberd – A solid choice, although its advanced version provides better overall performance.
  • Pikeman – Useful and reliable, but its upgraded version offers more value.
  • Longbowsman – A good ranged option with useful range and respectable damage. It is not necessarily overpowered, but it has a comfortable position in the roster.
  • Legionary – A serviceable unit that can contribute to an army without being particularly dominant.
  • Some Four-Star Units – Several of the four-star options fall into B Tier because they feel less effective than the strongest choices in the same rarity.
  • Shield-Based Units – Certain shield units can provide useful survivability, although their effectiveness depends heavily on the situation.
  • One of the Newer Units – A newer addition that is usable but currently feels more average than exceptional.

B Tier does not mean these units are bad. They can still perform well, especially when used with an army composition that covers their weaknesses.

C Tier Units

C Tier is where units become more situational. They can still work, but there are usually better options available if you are trying to build the strongest possible army.

  • Jolly Roger – Its shield and survivability give it some value, but it does not have enough overall power to compete with stronger units.
  • Blocking Rapier Knight – The blocking mechanic sounds useful, but it does not feel impactful enough compared with other choices.
  • Archer – The basic Archer can deal respectable damage and has decent range. However, its upgraded versions and other ranged units offer considerably more value.
  • Spearman – A fairly average melee unit that does not provide enough advantages to justify a higher placement.
  • Basic Horse Unit – The horse-based unit can have some useful moments, but it is inconsistent and often loses value compared with other ranged or mounted options.
  • Some Shield Units – These can survive in certain situations but do not provide enough overall impact to move higher.
  • Weaker Versions of Advanced Units – Basic versions can feel underwhelming once stronger evolutions become available.

C Tier units are generally better suited to players who enjoy experimenting rather than players looking for the most efficient setup.

D Tier Units

D Tier is reserved for units that currently struggle to find a useful role. They may have interesting designs or abilities, but their actual performance does not justify using them over other options.

  • Rapier Knight – This unit stands out as one of the weaker choices. Its blocking ability does not provide enough value, and it can be difficult to get meaningful results from it.
  • Poorly Performing New Unit – Despite being a newer addition, this unit currently feels like it lacks a clear role in the meta. It is rarely seen compared with more reliable options.

A D Tier placement does not mean these units are completely unusable. However, there are usually better choices that can perform the same job more effectively.

Which Unit Should You Use?

Command an Army

If you are lucky enough to obtain a four-star unit, it should be one of the first troops you test in your main lineup. Immortal, Samurai, Berserker, and Spartan are all excellent targets because of their rarity.

However, beginners shouldn’t feel forced to wait for a four-star pull before building an army. Scout Rider and Crossbowman are both useful alternatives, and their higher availability makes them much easier to develop. A simple progression path is:

  • Start with the one-star troops you receive.
  • Add Scout Rider when you obtain it.
  • Use Crossbowman for ranged support.
  • Upgrade your most useful units.
  • Replace weaker troops as better units become available.
  • Move into a four-star lineup when you get strong rare units.
  • Continue upgrading and ascending your best troops.

Does Rarity Always Mean Better?

Not necessarily. Rarity is a good indication of how difficult a unit is to obtain, but it doesn’t tell you everything about how useful a troop will be in every situation. A lower-rarity unit with several upgrades or ascensions can sometimes perform better than a newly obtained high-rarity troop.

This is especially important for players who don’t have many resources. Instead of replacing a unit immediately, test it in battle first. Look at how quickly it defeats enemies, how long it survives, and how useful it is when capturing or defending objectives.

Best Beginner Lineup

For a new player, you don’t need to build your entire army around four-star units. A balanced team is more practical while you’re still learning the game. A beginner lineup can focus on:

  • Scout Rider for mobility.
  • Crossbowman for ranged support.
  • Mercenary or Spearman for basic frontline combat.
  • Shieldman when you need additional defensive support.
  • A four-star unit once you are lucky enough to obtain one.

As your collection grows, start replacing the weaker one-star troops with stronger units.

The best units in Command an Army are generally the four-star troops, with Immortal, Samurai, Berserker, and Spartan sitting at the top of this ranking. They are extremely difficult to pull, so getting one can give your army a major boost.

That said, don’t overlook Scout Rider and Crossbowman. Both can be useful while you’re building your collection, and upgrades or ascension can make lower-rarity units surprisingly powerful.

For most beginners, the best strategy is to build around the strongest troops you actually have rather than waiting for a perfect lineup. Upgrade useful units, experiment with different combinations, and replace your weaker troops as you obtain better options.
