Starting Pixel Lineage can be confusing because the game throws a lot of systems at you early on. You have races, talents, classes, equipment, pets, lives, towns, dungeons, and progression systems to learn while also dealing with combat that requires you to pay attention.
This Pixel Lineage beginner guide covers the important things you should know when starting a new character, from choosing your first race and class to getting better gear, using pets, managing lives, and unlocking stronger classes.
Choose the Right Race for Your First Character
Your race is one of the first major choices you will make in Pixel Lineage. There are several options available, and some are better suited to specific builds. If you are not sure what kind of character you want to make yet, choosing a strong general-purpose race can make the early game easier.
Nightborn is one of the strongest starting options mentioned in the source material. Its main advantage is that your attacks heal you for 15% of the damage dealt. This provides useful sustain during combat and can help new players survive longer while learning the game’s combat system.
If you already know that you want to build around Magic or another specific playstyle, you can choose a race that works better with that build. However, for a completely new player, a race with reliable survivability is generally easier to use.
Pick Warrior as Your First Class
Pixel Lineage has multiple starting classes, including Warrior, Thief, and Mage. While you can eventually experiment with different classes, Warrior is one of the easiest choices for someone learning the game for the first time.
Warrior has a simpler attack pattern compared with some of the other classes. This gives you more time to learn how combat works instead of immediately having to deal with a complicated moveset.
Thief, Mage, and other classes can be worth trying once you understand the basics. You can also reset or move toward another character later, so your first class does not have to be a permanent decision.
Start With Normal Difficulty
After creating your character, you will arrive in the town. This is your main starting point and the place where you will eventually access many of the game’s systems.
When you are ready to begin playing, start with a Solo or Multiplayer run on Normal difficulty. The first area contains relatively manageable enemies, making it a good place to learn how attacks, dodges, and other combat mechanics work.
Do not immediately rush toward harder content. Use the early areas to understand enemy attack patterns and practice your own moves. If you take too much damage, you can use the Return Home option in the bottom-left corner to leave the run and return to town.
Pay Attention to Combat
Pixel Lineage is not a game where you can completely switch off and let your character handle everything. Combat requires you to react to what enemies are doing and perform attacks or defensive actions at the right time.
Learning enemy patterns is especially important because losing a character’s lives can affect your future progression. Start slowly and focus on avoiding unnecessary damage instead of trying to finish every encounter as quickly as possible.
As you become more comfortable with your class, you can start experimenting with different attacks and combinations. This becomes increasingly important when you begin fighting bosses and stronger enemies.
Collect Better Gear From Enemies
Enemies can drop different levels of equipment, including Rare, Epic, and Legendary items. Bosses generally provide better opportunities to obtain valuable gear, while higher difficulties can also improve the quality of the rewards you receive.
Do not worry about having a perfect build immediately. Your early goal should be to replace weak equipment as you progress and learn which stats work well with your class.
You should also pay attention to unusual encounters. Secret bosses can appear randomly during runs and are particularly valuable because they can provide EXP, Gold, Knowledge, and unique Secret Items.
Hunt Secret Bosses
Secret bosses are worth fighting whenever you encounter one. They can appear randomly while exploring, so you cannot always plan exactly when you will fight them.
The rewards can be significantly better than those from regular enemies. Secret bosses can provide Knowledge, Gold, EXP, and special Secret Items that can become useful parts of your build.
Because these encounters are rare, you may have to decide whether the potential reward is worth the risk. For a new player, they can be dangerous, but successfully defeating one can provide a major boost to your progression.
Learn the Town’s Important Buildings
As you progress, more buildings and facilities will become available in your town. You do not necessarily need to understand every building immediately, but several of them are important from the beginning.
The main facilities to learn include:
- Inn — Store your items, materials, and Gold.
- Ranch — Manage and interact with your pets.
- Auction House — Buy and sell items with other players.
- Guild Hall — Access guild-related features and activities.
- Blacksmith — Upgrade and improve your equipment.
- Other town facilities — Provide additional systems that become useful as you progress.
The Inn and Auction House are especially useful early on. The Inn gives you somewhere to keep your important items, while the Auction House allows you to purchase equipment or sell things you no longer need.
Use the Auction House
The Auction House is one of the most useful features for players who want to improve their equipment without relying entirely on drops.
Other players can list items for sale, meaning you may find gear that fits your build or materials that you need. You can also sell unwanted equipment, pets, or other items to earn additional Gold.
Do not automatically sell everything you find. Some equipment may become useful later, while valuable items can be worth checking against your current build before putting them on the market.
Redeem Pixel Lineage Codes
New players should also redeem every available Pixel Lineage code they can find. Codes can provide Race Spins, Talent Spins, Gold, Potions, Knowledge, and even additional Lives.
Race and Talent Spins are particularly useful at the beginning because they give you more opportunities to find something that works with your preferred build. Extra Lives are also valuable because of the game’s survival mechanics.
Some Life rewards can sit in your inbox until you need them. This means you do not necessarily have to use them immediately.
Upgrade Your Equipment at the Blacksmith
The Blacksmith becomes increasingly important as you collect better equipment. You can use different upgrade stones to improve your weapons and other gear.
Upgrade materials come in different rarities, including:
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Epic
- Legendary
Upgrading is not always guaranteed to succeed. Some improvements have relatively high success rates, while more advanced upgrades can have much lower chances.
Because of this, avoid wasting valuable upgrade materials on equipment you expect to replace shortly. Save stronger resources for gear that you plan to keep using for a longer period.
Get Pets as Early as Possible
Pets are more than cosmetic companions in Pixel Lineage. They can actively participate in combat and provide abilities that can help your character throughout a run.
You can obtain eggs while playing and hatch them to receive different pets. Some pets have multiple attack abilities, while others can heal, protect, or provide additional utility to the party.
For new players, getting a useful pet can make difficult encounters much easier. Pets can contribute additional damage while also providing effects that your main character may not have access to.
Look for Better Pets
Not every pet will have the same strength. Some pets are much more valuable because of their abilities, rarity, or combination of skills.
Mythic pets are particularly valuable and can provide powerful abilities. During limited-time events, you may also be able to obtain exclusive pets that are unavailable through the normal pool.
If an event is currently running, check its available eggs and rewards. Limited-time pets can be worth pursuing, especially if they provide healing or defensive effects that benefit the entire party.
Join a Guild
Guilds provide another layer of progression and multiplayer content. Once you have access to a Guild Hall, you can join or create a guild and work with other players.
One important feature is the Raid Gate. This allows groups of players to challenge powerful bosses together for unique rewards and tokens.
Guild activities are worth exploring once you are comfortable with normal combat. Playing with other players can also make difficult content easier and gives you access to additional opportunities for trading and group progression.
Understand the Three-Life System
One of the most important mechanics for new players is the Life system. Your character starts with three Lives, so dying repeatedly can eventually put your character in a dangerous position.
When you die during combat, you may need to return to town with one of your Lives lost. Extra Lives can also be obtained from certain rewards, including codes.
Once a character has only one Life remaining, consider playing more carefully. Depending on your situation, you may want to transfer valuable equipment to another character rather than risking everything on a character that is close to running out of Lives.
The three-Life system gives you more room for mistakes than a traditional one-life permadeath system, but you should still avoid taking unnecessary risks.
Unlock Your Super Class
Your starting class is only the beginning of your character’s progression. As you explore the game, you will eventually encounter a shrine that allows you to advance into a Super Class.
The shrine gives you several choices, allowing you to select a more specialized class for your character. These advanced classes provide additional moves and can significantly increase your combat potential.
Once you reach this stage, think carefully about which option fits your current build. Your choice of Super Class can influence the abilities and playstyle you use for the rest of your progression.
Upgrade to an Ultra Class
After unlocking a Super Class, you can eventually progress toward an Ultra Class. This requires Sigils, which are obtainable from Act 5 and higher content.
Different bosses can have better chances of dropping specific Sigils, so you may need to target particular encounters rather than simply farming random enemies.
Tomes are also required for some additional Ultra Class skills. These items can be difficult to obtain, but collecting them is part of the long-term process of maximizing your character.
Unlock the Ancient Portal Early
One of the most useful things you can unlock in the starting area is the Ancient Portal. This system allows you to travel back to different areas and Acts that you have already unlocked.
Without the portal, moving between locations can become much more inconvenient. Unlocking it early gives you significantly more freedom when choosing where to continue your progression.
The portal can also be useful when playing with friends. If you are grouping together, having access to the teleport system can make it easier for everyone to reach the same Act.
Check the Bestiary and Game Information
Pixel Lineage has a lot of items, enemies, bosses, and potential rewards, so remembering everything is unrealistic. Use the information available in-game to learn more about different mobs and their possible drops.
The game’s community resources can also help you identify where certain items, bosses, Sigils, and other materials can be found.
This becomes especially useful during late-game progression when you need specific drops rather than simply farming whatever enemy happens to be nearby.
Take Part in Limited-Time Events
Limited-time events can introduce exclusive armor, pets, currencies, and other rewards. If you are starting during an active event, check what you can obtain before the event ends.
Event armor may sometimes be more focused on appearance, but exclusive pets can provide useful combat abilities. Some event pets can have healing, defensive, or offensive skills that remain valuable beyond the event itself.
Do not ignore event content simply because you are a new player. Some rewards can provide useful upgrades while you are still building your character.
Pixel Lineage has a lot of systems, but you do not need to master everything at once. Focus on learning combat first, then gradually explore equipment, pets, classes, crafting, trading, and guild content as you progress.
Your first priority should be building a character that can survive consistently. Use codes for free resources, upgrade useful gear, find a strong pet, and avoid wasting your Lives on fights that you are not prepared to handle.
Once you understand the basic systems, start working toward a Super Class and eventually an Ultra Class. With better equipment, pets, and class upgrades, the later Acts become much easier to approach.
