The Spectral Mutation is a special mutation that players can obtain in Steal an Egg on Roblox. To get it, you need to unlock the Phantom Express, collect souls from spirits, and exchange them for Spectral Mutation Shards. However, getting the shard does not guarantee that your egg will receive the mutation, so you may need to repeat the process several times.
In this guide, you will learn how to complete Echo Dog’s questline, enter the Phantom Express, farm souls, and use Spectral Mutation Shards on your eggs.
How to Unlock the Phantom Express in Steal an Egg
Before you can start farming souls, you need to unlock access to the Phantom Express. This requires completing Echo Dog’s questline in the Corrupted Realm. Make sure you finish the quest before looking for the train station, as you will need a ticket to board the train for the first time.
Follow these steps to obtain your Phantom Express ticket:
- Enter the Corrupted Realm and find Echo Dog.
- Start Echo Dog’s questline and search for the four lost items connected to his memories.
- Return after collecting all four items and follow Echo Dog to the next part of the quest.
- Continue following him until you reach the Ghost Fisherman at Gilbert’s Hut.
- Complete the special fishing minigame to obtain your Phantom Express ticket.
You may need to try the fishing minigame more than once before receiving the ticket. Keep attempting it until you successfully obtain the required item.
Where to Find the Phantom Express Station
Once you have the ticket, head to the Phantom Express station in the Corrupted Realm. The station is located on the right side of the map, so check that area if you are having trouble finding it.
The Phantom Express reportedly arrives approximately every 30 minutes. This means you might need to wait at the station before the train appears. Once it arrives, use your ticket to board and enter the special event area.
Keep in mind that the ticket is consumed when you board the train for the first time. However, after you successfully enter the Phantom Express for the first time, you can access it again without needing another ticket.
How to Farm Souls in the Phantom Express
After entering the Phantom Express, you can start collecting souls in its event area. Your main objective is to capture spirits using the special vacuum device available for the event.
Equip the vacuum and use it on the spirits you find around the area. Each type of spirit provides a different amount of souls, so choosing the right targets can help you reach the 1,000-soul requirement faster.
Here are the soul rewards for each spirit:
- Lost Spirit: 10 souls
- Haunted Spirit: 35 souls
- Vengeful Spirit: 150 souls
- Ghouler: 225 souls
Ghouler is the boss of the event and provides the highest reward on this list. Vengeful Spirits are also valuable targets because each one gives you 150 souls.
If you want to farm souls efficiently, prioritize Ghouler and Vengeful Spirits whenever possible. You can still capture Lost Spirits and Haunted Spirits along the way, especially when stronger targets are unavailable.
How to Get Spectral Mutation Shards
You need 1,000 souls to purchase one Spectral Mutation Shard. After collecting enough souls, look for the Soul Shrine inside the Phantom Express event area.
The Soul Shrine is located to the right of the station. Approach it and exchange your 1,000 souls for a Spectral Mutation Shard.
You will need to repeat the soul-farming process whenever you want to purchase another shard. Since the mutation has a limited success rate, collecting extra souls before leaving the event can help you prepare for another attempt.
How to Use Spectral Mutation Shards on Eggs
After purchasing a Spectral Mutation Shard, return to your regular base or pen. Choose the egg you want to mutate, then use the shard on it to attempt to apply the Spectral Mutation.
However, there is one important detail to remember: each Spectral Mutation Shard has a 25% chance of applying the mutation. This means the mutation is not guaranteed, even if you have already spent 1,000 souls to obtain the shard.
If the attempt fails, you will need to collect another 1,000 souls and purchase a new shard before trying again. Make sure you use your shards on eggs you actually want to mutate, rather than spending them without a specific target in mind.
Because the success rate is only 25%, you should be prepared to make multiple attempts. Each attempt uses another shard, so the total amount of souls required will depend on how lucky you are.
Tips for Getting Spectral Mutation Faster
There are several ways to make the process less time-consuming. First, finish Echo Dog’s questline as soon as possible so you can unlock the Phantom Express and begin collecting souls. Once you have access to the event, focus on targets that provide the highest rewards.
- Prioritize Ghouler for its 225-soul reward.
- Capture Vengeful Spirits whenever they appear because they provide 150 souls each.
- Collect weaker spirits when stronger targets are not available.
- Use the Soul Shrine to exchange every 1,000 souls for one shard.
- Choose your target egg before using a shard.
- Prepare for multiple attempts because the mutation chance is only 25%.
Following these tips can help you reduce the time spent farming souls and give you more opportunities to obtain the mutation.
