The main objective in Dead Rails is to travel as far as possible using a train. However, the train needs fuel to keep moving, so you must stop at different locations to gather supplies and purchase more fuel when necessary.
You can use various items as train fuel, including certain objects you find during exploration. Even defeated zombies can be used as fuel, so remember this mechanic when you need to keep the train moving.
Step 1: Survive the First Night
Your first objective appears in the top-right corner of the screen. You need to survive one night by traveling forward on the train.
You do not need to rush through this section. Make stops along the way to search houses, collect useful items, and gather money by defeating zombies. You can store items in your bag and use the money you earn to purchase additional fuel when you reach a town.
Keep an eye on the train’s fuel level, which can be checked near the front of the train. Running out of fuel can prevent you from continuing your journey, so make sure you have enough before traveling too far.
You can also purchase upgrades in towns, but they are not essential for completing the first objective. Once you survive the night, the game will give you another task.
Step 2: Find the Stain and Enter the Portal
After surviving the night, your next objective is to find the Stain. Its location is marked by a large icon, making it easier to identify when you reach the correct town.
Approach the marked location and interact with it. A key will appear nearby after you complete the interaction. Pick up the key and use it to unlock the nearby entrance.
Once the entrance is open, go through the portal. This takes you to another train that serves as the main route for the rest of the Dead Rails quest.
After entering this area, follow the objective displayed on the screen. At this point, the task is to travel farther, so walk toward the end of the train and collect any useful items you find along the way.
Step 3: Find the Bank Vault Code
During your journey on the second train, search the carriages carefully for items and ammunition. One important item you need to find is a piece of paper containing the bank vault code.
Make sure you collect this paper before reaching the first stop. The code is required to open a vault inside the bank at that town, and the vault contains the key needed to continue the quest.
Once you arrive at the town, prepare to fight the zombies around the area. After dealing with the enemies, enter the bank and locate the vault.
Step 4: Open the Bank Vault and Get the First Key
To open the vault, use the code written on the paper you collected from the train. Unlike a normal keypad, this vault requires you to rotate a wheel to set the correct combination.
Adjust the wheel until the code matches the one shown on the paper. The vault may take a few seconds to open after you enter the correct combination.
Once it opens, collect the key inside. Be careful because additional zombies may appear during this part of the mission. Defeat them before returning to the train so you can travel safely.
After collecting the key, return to the train and use it on the locked section. This opens another area, allowing you to continue toward the next stop.
Step 5: Defeat the Boss and Find the Second Key
Continue walking through the train and follow the objective until you reach the next stop. This time, you need to find another key outside the train.
Leave the train and prepare for a fight. Several zombies will appear, so use your weapons to defeat them before moving forward. Once the enemies are cleared, go through the gate and look for a key displayed on a podium in the area ahead.
However, you cannot simply grab the key and leave. A boss will appear, and you must defeat it to complete this part of the quest.
The boss fight is manageable if you keep attacking and pay attention to nearby enemies. Use your available weapons and avoid taking unnecessary damage. Once the boss is defeated, collect the key from the podium.
Return to the train with the key and continue moving toward the end, just as you did during the previous sections.
Step 6: Complete the Quest and Unlock the Dead Rails Badge
After progressing through the train, look for the NPC at the end of the area. Interact with this character to finish the mission.
The NPC will send you out of the train, and you should receive the Dead Rails badge once the quest is completed. You can then return to The Hollow hub and continue working toward the event’s other rewards.
Remember that completing the Dead Rails mission and claiming the exclusive item are two separate tasks. You still need to explore the maze inside The Hollow to collect the item.
How to Get the Dead Rails Item in The Hollow
Once you have earned the badge, return to The Hollow hub and enter the theater. Your next goal is to locate the Dead Rails area inside the maze.
Follow these steps to begin searching for the item:
- Enter the theater in The Hollow hub.
- Find the elevator and enter it.
- Select Floor 3.
- Once you arrive, leave the elevator and explore the surrounding corridors.
- Search the maze for the Dead Rails area.
- Enter the area and collect the item displayed there.
The maze can be confusing, and the route may not be immediately obvious. If you cannot find the correct corridor, keep exploring the passages until you locate the Dead Rails section. Do not assume that every turn will lead directly to the item, as it may take some time to find the correct area. When you reach the Dead Rails area, approach the reward and collect it to finish the item hunt.
Getting the Dead Rails item and badge in The Hollow Roblox event requires completing a mission and exploring the hub maze. Start by surviving the first night, finding the Stain, and entering the portal.
