Getting Nen is one of the most important steps in Beyond Nen. It unlocks a new part of your character’s progression and allows you to develop stronger abilities. However, the game offers several ways to obtain Nen, and some of them can take quite a lot of time.
The easiest and safest method is completing the Hunter Exam and earning your Hunter License. This guide explains how to join the exam, prepare your character, pass all four stages, and complete the final quest to unlock Nen.
All Ways to Get Nen in Beyond Nen
There are three known methods to obtain Nen in Beyond Nen. Each method has different requirements, but not all of them are equally reliable. If you want to unlock Nen without taking unnecessary risks, completing the Hunter Exam is the recommended option.
Here are the three ways to get Nen:
- Unlock all seven Nen nodes: You can obtain Nen by unlocking every available node. However, this method takes a lot of time and requires you to complete several progression steps.
- Complete the Hunter Exam: Pass all four stages of the Hunter Exam and obtain your Hunter License. This is the safest and most recommended method.
- Receive Nen from another player: A player who already has Nen can use it on you. However, there is only around a 3% chance of successfully obtaining Nen this way. Otherwise, your aura may become corrupted.
Because the third method depends heavily on luck, it is better not to rely on it. The Hunter Exam gives you a more direct path toward unlocking Nen.
Requirements to Join the Hunter Exam
Before entering the Hunter Exam, you need to reach at least Level 10. The exam opens at the beginning of every hour, and you can join through the lobby. Once the event becomes available, return to the lobby and look for the entrance.
Although Level 10 is enough to participate, entering at the minimum level is not recommended. Several stages involve PvP combat, meaning you will have to fight other players who may have much higher levels and better equipment.
It is better to spend some time grinding before joining. Reaching a higher level will give you a better chance of surviving the battles. Keep in mind that your character’s level is capped at Level 50 until you obtain a Hunter License, while the maximum level is Level 100.
Hunter Exam Stage 1: Run to the Finish Line
The first stage is the easiest part of the Hunter Exam. Your main objective is to run along the path until you reach the finish line. You do not need to defeat enemies or complete any complicated challenges during this section.
There will be objects falling along the route, and some of them may hit your character. If this happens, you will have to complete a small recovery minigame before continuing. Getting hit does not automatically eliminate you from the exam.
The important thing is to stay inside the designated circle and keep moving toward the finish line. You have around one minute to recover if you leave the circle, so avoid staying outside for too long. As long as you remain active and reach the end, you should be able to proceed to the second stage.
Hunter Exam Stage 2: Maze Guide and Exit Location
The second stage is where things become more complicated. You will enter a maze and need to find the exit to continue the Hunter Exam. Unlike a randomly generated maze, the exit location follows a fixed route, meaning you can learn the correct path instead of searching every corner.
The main challenge is remembering the turns and following the route carefully. Avoid rushing through unfamiliar sections because taking the wrong direction can waste time. Once you reach the purple box, you have successfully found the exit.
After reaching the purple box, you will have to fight a boss before moving forward. This enemy is a humanoid boss with relatively simple attack patterns and manageable damage. Players with decent levels should not have too much trouble defeating it, but Level 10 characters may struggle.
Defeat the boss to complete this stage and continue to Zevil Island for the next part of the Hunter Exam.
Hunter Exam Stage 3: PvP Battle on Zevil Island
The third stage takes place on Zevil Island, and this is arguably the most difficult part of the entire exam. Unlike the previous stages, this section focuses heavily on PvP combat. Your objective is to obtain a badge from another player and reach the exit.
The biggest problem is that players can team up. If several people work together, fighting them alone can become extremely difficult. Bringing a friend into the Hunter Exam can make this stage much easier because you can help each other survive encounters.
If you are playing alone, try to find an opponent who is also separated from other players. Fighting someone without teammates nearby gives you a better chance of winning. Once you knock down your target, make sure to grip them to obtain the required badge.
After collecting the badge, do not waste time fighting other players. Run toward the exit as quickly as possible. Your goal is to survive and complete the objective, not to defeat everyone on the island.
Hunter Exam Stage 4: Win the Final 1v1
The fourth stage is more straightforward than the previous PvP battle. This time, you will participate in a one-on-one fight against another player. There are no large groups to deal with, so the result mainly depends on your combat skills and character strength.
You need to defeat your opponent to pass the final stage. If you lose, your Hunter Exam attempt will fail, and you will need to enter the exam again to complete it.
Because this is the final battle, make sure you are prepared before entering. Use your abilities carefully, watch your opponent’s movements, and avoid wasting your attacks. Winning this fight will reward you with the Hunter License.
How to Unlock Nen After Getting Your Hunter License
Passing all four Hunter Exam stages is not the final step. After receiving your Hunter License, you still need to complete a short quest to unlock Nen. Fortunately, this part is much easier than the PvP stages.
First, travel to the Nen Cave and speak with the NPC inside. Follow the quest instructions until you reach the meditation objective. The NPC will ask you to meditate, but you need a Meditation Mat before you can complete this task.
To get the Meditation Mat, return to the starter village and visit the merchant. Purchase the mat, then place it down in the required area to begin meditating. Once you complete this objective and finish the remaining quest instructions, you will finally unlock Nen.
After obtaining Nen, you can start training it and investing points into its skill progression. This allows you to develop your abilities and continue improving your character.
Tips to Complete the Hunter Exam Faster
The Hunter Exam can be challenging, especially when other players are competing for the same rewards. Preparing properly before joining can save you time and reduce the chances of failing.
Here are some useful tips:
- Reach a higher level first: Avoid joining at Level 10 if possible. Stronger characters have a better chance in PvP battles.
- Bring a friend: Having someone to team up with is especially useful during the Zevil Island stage.
- Remember the maze route: The second stage has a fixed exit location, so learning the correct path makes it easier to complete.
- Focus on the badge objective: During Stage 3, collect the required badge and head straight for the exit.
- Prepare for the final duel: The last stage is a one-on-one fight, so make sure your character is ready before entering.
- Buy the Meditation Mat: You will need this item after receiving your Hunter License to complete the Nen quest.
The Hunter Exam is the most reliable way to get Nen in Beyond Nen. Although you need to pass four different stages, most of the challenges become easier once you understand their objectives. The maze requires you to follow a fixed route, while the Zevil Island stage demands good PvP skills and smart decisions.
After earning your Hunter License, visit the Nen Cave, complete the NPC’s quest, and purchase a Meditation Mat from the starter village merchant. Once the meditation objective is finished, you can finally unlock Nen and begin developing your abilities.
