Pets in AION 2 are not only there to follow your character around. They are an important part of character progression because they provide passive stat bonuses and additional effects. With a large collection of pets available across Atreia, knowing where to find them can save a lot of time.

There are 200 pets divided into five groups: Special, Cogni, Fera, Natura, and Varian. Some can be obtained from monsters, while others require Reward Chests, Black Cloud Merchants, special shops, passes, or other late-game content.

How to Get Pets in AION 2

One of the easiest ways to start collecting pets is by hunting monsters throughout Atreia. Certain monsters can drop their own Souls when defeated, allowing you to gradually register that creature as a pet. The basic process works like this:

  • Find and defeat the monster you want.
  • Collect its Soul after the monster is defeated.
  • Collect 5 Souls from the same monster.
  • Once you have enough Souls, the pet is automatically registered in your collection.

Not every pet can be obtained through combat. Non-Special pets can also appear in Mysterios, Growth, and type-specific Reward Chests. Some can also be purchased through rotating Black Cloud Merchant shops or obtained from Pet Soul Chests.

How Pet Upgrades Work

Every newly acquired pet starts at Level 1. You can improve its Genus Insight by collecting more Souls from the same pet.

The progression works as follows:

  • 5 Souls are needed to register the pet.
  • 25 additional Souls are needed to reach Level 2.
  • Another 75 Souls can be collected to reach the maximum Genus Insight level.
  • Genus Insight is capped at Level 10.
  • The Transformation ability becomes available at Level 3.

Collecting more pets also benefits your entire character. Your overall Insight Level increases as your collection grows, while Owned Effects provide additional passive stats.

AION 2 Special Pets

Special Pets are different from regular creatures because they cannot be obtained through standard monster drops. Instead, they are tied to specific purchases, passes, shops, or late-game progression.

The current Special Pet list includes:

  • Pagati — Purchase for 2 million Bound Kina from Tsenka Merchants or obtain through the Advance: Pet Chest.
  • Black Dragon — Unlock through the Daeva’s Chest of Might.
  • Swift Lugi — Available through Daeva Pass Season 1.
  • Wandering Merchant Lugi — Purchase from the Shugo Festival Pets Trade Shop.
  • White Bunny — Purchase from the Atelier Shop.
  • Chonky Hamster — Purchase from the Atelier Shop.

Because of their special acquisition methods, these pets may take more planning to obtain compared with normal combat pets.

Which Pets Should You Collect First?

There is no single pet that replaces the entire collection system in AION 2. Since collecting pets contributes to your overall Insight Level and Owned Effects, building a large collection can be valuable even when you do not actively use every pet.

For beginners, combat-drop pets are usually the easiest place to start. Simply explore, defeat monsters, and collect their Souls while progressing through the game.

You should also check Reward Chests and Black Cloud Merchant inventories regularly. These sources contain pets that cannot always be obtained directly from combat, making them important for players trying to complete their collection.

The biggest reason to collect pets is their contribution to character progression. Pets provide passive stat benefits, while increasing your collection can improve your overall Insight Level. This means pet collecting is not simply a cosmetic activity. Even if you are not interested in collecting every creature, unlocking more pets can still provide useful benefits for your character.

For completionists, the goal is much bigger: AION 2 currently has 200 pets spread across Special, Cogni, Fera, Natura, and Varian categories. Finding every pet will require a combination of monster hunting, chest farming, merchant shopping, and special-event or progression rewards.
