Apple Watch could lose his crown in the future to adopt a touch panel on its side. Digital Crown is undoubtedly one of the distinguishing hallmarks of Apple Watch and the method of interaction with the completely unique watch. Rescuing a traditional element of watch as the crown, Apple has managed to endow it with new meaning and convert its rotation into electronic information that allows us to move through the system interface, set the time accurately, among other functions.

However, what if the Digital Crown was not as perfect as it seems? What if there were better systems that could replace it in a couple of generations? Recently, I read an interesting article about it. Some expert predicted the demise of the Apple Watch Digital Crown for future generations.

What could this new system? A touch panel.

When we speak of touch panel, we are not referring to “touch screen”. We refer to a touch strip to be located on the side of the clock that we now find the Crown and the side button. This touch panel may complete the utility replicate by the Crown in the same way that the Apple Magic Mouse does with traditional wheel mice.

In fact, this system could even improve the capabilities of the Digital Corona, allowing users to avoid repetitive movements based on a method of “pressure to move.” In addition, introducing the current Force Touch, this touch panel technology, we could continue to have the function “Home” button that currently makes the Crown. In fact, one of the possible uses of the Force Touch technology on the iPhone could be the long term to replace the Home button.

A touch panel technology with Touch Force would be everything needed to replace the Digital Crown

As we read in Aware Watch this concept would also include a second variant: a button with Force Touch technology. Instead of having a bezel that occupy the entire length of the side of Apple Watch, a movement would continue to make the scroll, while we might access Siri making a longer and deeper touch, switch between apps making a push button more short or return to the home screen.

What do you think about ideas to replace the Digital Crown?

Do you think that would be great?
