4 Operating System that Fails to Compete with Android and iOS!
Android and iOS are the most used operating systems right now. Android is made by Google, and iOS is made by Apple. Both has so many fanatic user. However, did you know that besides Android and iOS, there exist some other Operating System that fails to compete with Android nor iOS? Well, if you don’t then check out the article below!
1. WebOS
Not long after Apple released iPhone with their new operating system, iOS. Palm a smartphone company released their own operating system called WebOS, also known as LG webOS. It is a Linux kernel-based multitasking operating system for smart devices such as smart TVs. It has also been used as a mobile operating system.
Initially developed by Palm, Inc. (which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard), HP made the platform open source, at which point it became Open webOS. The operating system was later sold to LG Electronics. However, it fails short to compete with the iPhone at the time and isn’t really popular. Because of that, not many people know the WebOS, but you can still download the operating system online.
2. MeeGo
Although MeeGo is being supported by Intel and Nokia, this operating system also fails to compete with both android and iOS. MeeGo is actually released only on 2 smartphones which are the Nokia N9 and the Nokia N950. But seeing the popularity of both the Phone and the Operating system fail short with what the users want, Nokia didn’t continue the support using MeeGo as their main OS in their next phone.
3. Blackberry 10
Blackberry is one of the oldest operating systems that had come long ways before being crushed by Android and iOS because of its messaging service, BBM (Blackberry Messenger). However, with the release of android and Whatsapp the phone fail shortly since android offers more feature. Afterward to regain their glory, Blackberry made its own Operating System called Blackberry 10, but fail to gain the smartphone user’s attention that has used android for a long time.
4. Firefox OS
Not many people know this, but Firefox also made their own operating system that can be used on your smartphone. Firefox OS is a discontinued open-source operating system – made for smartphones, tablet computers, and smart TVs – designed by Mozilla and external contributors.
It is based on the rendering engine of the Firefox web browser, Gecko, and on the Linux kernel. It was first commercially released in 2013. But because of the lack of exposure and the lack of features, it fails to get the attention of smartphone users and mainly becomes something that is forgotten.
