Valve, the Dota 2 developer, announced today that they have banned up to 40,000 cheaters in the last few weeks. The Dota 2 website made the official announcement. Cheaters have become more prevalent in online games as a result of easy access to cheat programs and players’ desire to win instantly.

Cheaters are individuals who use illegal software or methods to gain an unfair advantage in a game. Cheats of various kinds have spread to all types of games. Valve also stated that many players constantly develop and use new exploits to gain an unfair advantage at the expense of other players.

With the removal of these 40,000 cheaters, players in Dota 2 should have an easier time achieving their MMR goals. MMR is an abbreviation for Matchmaking Rating, which is used in Dota 2’s matchmaking system to determine a player’s skill level.
