Fairphone has been in the news recently due to its latest software update for its Fairphone 3 and 3+ devices. The company has delivered Android 13 for both models, skipping Android 12 altogether. This is a great achievement for the sustainable smartphone company, especially since it aims to support each of its phones for at least five years after launch.

In case you didn’t know, the chipset manufacturer, Qualcomm, did not support Android 12 for the Snapdragon 632 inside the Fairphone 3 and 3+. As a result, Fairphone’s “amazing internal team” took over software support for the device and delivered Android 13 for both models.

Fairphone’s goal is to support each of its phones for at least five years after launch, and it aims to provide software updates until the end of August 2024. However, since longevity is one of Fairphone’s core values, the software team is now “aiming” to add two extra years of support to the Fairphone 3, taking the last update into 2026.

This is great news for owners of the Fairphone 3 and 3+ who are looking to keep their devices running for as long as possible. It’s a testament to Fairphone’s commitment to sustainability, longevity, and reducing electronic waste. With this latest update, Fairphone is proving that it’s possible to have a sustainable smartphone that lasts for years.
