Fortnite just shook things up with Chapter 5 Season One, introducing the Medallion, a new game item that tweaked the gameplay. These Medallions come from knocking out Boss NPCs scattered across the map.

Grabbing one means your shields start slowly regenerating over time, no need for potions or materials. But, there’s a catch – carrying a Medallion puts a big yellow circle on the radar, showing everyone where you are.

This change really mixed things up, with some players calling it unfair in battles. The developers heard the feedback and decided to balance things out. Let’s break it down.

Fortnite Medallion Changes

Medallions are handy as they don’t take up inventory space and let you regen shields without any fuss. There were five of them in the game:

  • Valeria’s Medallion: Found in Reckless Railways
  • Montague’s Medallion: Located in Grand Glacier
  • Nisha’s Medallion: Spotted within Fencing Fields
  • Oscar’s Medallion: Protects Lavish Lair
  • Peter Griffin’s Medallion: Guards Snooty Steppes

But they were too strong, making potions almost useless. Players spoke up, and the devs listened. Now, as of December 16th, Medallions won’t fill up your shields 100% unless you collect all five. Finding them is a challenge since they’re spread across different regions.

There’s also a short delay before they start refilling your shields. To make things fair, the yellow circle showing your position to enemies is now smaller. Here’s how the new shield regen rates look:

  • 1 Medallion: gain max shield 50
  • 2 Medallions: gain max shield 60
  • 3 Medallions: gain max shield 70
  • 4 Medallions: gain max shield 85

Even with these changes toning them down, Medallions are still worth picking up if you want a steady shield supply.
