Threads Celebrates One Year Milestone with 175 Million Users
Threads, the social media platform spun off from Meta’s Instagram, marked its first anniversary on July 5, 2024, with a significant milestone: 175 million monthly active users. This growth announcement came directly from Mark Zuckerberg, emphasizing the platform’s rapid ascent since its inception.
Initially, Threads skyrocketed to 100 million users within just 5 days of its launch, demonstrating immense early popularity. While growth has steadied since then, the platform continues to expand steadily, reaching 130 million users by February and 150 million by April.
To celebrate reaching 175 million users, the Threads team has introduced new custom icons for users to personalize their profiles. These icons, available for a limited time, offer five new choices alongside the default option, with one new icon releasing daily until July 12. Users can access these icons via the Your Profile tab in the app by tapping the birthday cake icon.
Threads integrates seamlessly into Meta’s broader network, enabling users across more than 100 countries to share their posts with the fediverse as of June 25.
According to Instagram, text-only posts dominate Threads, comprising 63% of all content. Additionally, one in four posts features at least one photo, indicating a visual component’s significant role.
Voice notes are also gaining popularity, particularly among younger users compared to older generations, as highlighted in Instagram’s recent survey results. Stay tuned as Threads continues to evolve within Meta’s ecosystem, providing users with new ways to connect and share in the digital landscape.
