Character Roles in Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra
Before diving into individual characters, it’s important to understand the three main roles in the game:
- DPS (Damage Per Second): These characters specialize in dealing high damage and drawing enemy attention.
- Tanks: Built to absorb damage and protect allies, tanks often feature self-healing or armor-generating abilities.
- Technical Support: These heroes focus on healing allies, disrupting enemies, and utilizing unique kits to control the battlefield.
All Heroes & Character Skill Explains in Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra
Super Saiyan Vegeta (Tank)
Concept: “Raise your resistance every time you land your skills forcibly move your opponents tossing them around the battlefield.”
Vegeta is a formidable tank with excellent crowd control (CC). His kit revolves around disruption and surprising burst damage.
- Passive: Prince’s Pride: Gain a reduced cooldown effect when HP is below a certain percentage.
- Consecutive Energy Blast: Fires multiple energy blasts, recovering armor on hit. At level three, it causes an explosion that consumes nearby enemies. You can move and change direction while firing. This is great for burst damage when comboed with other skills.
- Photon Bomber: Fires an energy blast causing an explosion that forcibly moves enemies towards the center. This move destroys enemy rush attacks and is key for setting up combos and burst damage.
- Explosive Wave: A “get off me” skill that causes an explosion around Vegeta, forcibly moving enemies away and recovering his armor. This emphasizes his disruptive abilities and survivability.
- Super Attack: Big Bang Attack: Fires an energy blast that causes a massive explosion, recovering armor on hit.
Vegeta’s strength comes from his ability to constantly stack armor through his skills, making him incredibly durable despite lacking direct healing like Zamasu. At level seven, he transforms into Super Saiyan, boosting his HP, armor, and attack power.
Super Saiyan Teen Trunks (DPS)
Concept: “Activate your skills repeatedly with overcharge dominate your enemies and with mobility and rapid firepower.”
Super Saiyan Teen Trunks is a dedicated DPS character who excels at finishing off weak enemies with high mobility and rapid attacks.
- Passive: Overcharge: Skills on cooldown can be reactivated immediately upon defeating or assisting in defeating an enemy God of Destruction or boss. This is Trunks’ core mechanic, allowing him to chain abilities.
- Burst Slash: Unleashes a powerful slash, dealing increased damage against enemies with low HP. This skill helps Trunks chase down and finish off fleeing opponents.
- Vanish Strike: Warps to a target location and performs a slashing attack with his sword, capable of warping past walls. This is Trunks’ primary mobility tool for engaging or disengaging and chasing weak targets.
- Burning Attack: Fires an energy blast that explodes at the point of impact, generating smoke. This gives Trunks a ranged option for damage and can also trigger Overcharge.
- Super Attack: Shining Slash: Combines a slash and a shockwave, granting movement speed up afterward. You can change direction while attacking. This super helps Trunks maintain pressure and pursue low-health targets.
Trunks is a relentless finisher, constantly hunting down enemies below 50% health. At level seven, he also transforms, as is common for many characters.
Kid Gohan (Technical Support)
Concept: “Power up by sticking close to an ally hero. Unlock your potential to let loose a devastating attack.”
Kid Gohan is a technical support character who thrives by staying near allies, providing buffs and disruption.
- Passive: Friendship Boost: Staying near an ally hero for a certain time grants Gohan all defense up and applies all attack up to the ally. Gohan essentially acts as a “pocket” support, boosting his chosen teammate.
- Masenko: Unleashes an energy blast that forcibly moves enemies. This provides useful disruption and distance creation.
- Senkyaku: Rushes forward and unleashes a roundhouse kick. Charging increases range and damage, and a fully charged hit staggers enemies. This move requires skill to time and range effectively, but a successful stagger can set up easy kills for teammates.
- Leave this to me: Warps to a single ally hero, applying energy defense up to both and creating a barrier that further boosts energy defense for allies and afflicts enemies with energy defense down. This is a strong defensive and offensive support tool.
- Super Attack 1: Exploding Rage: Unleashes energy around Gohan, applying strike attack up to allies within the AoE, gaining strike defense up, and increasing his rush attacks.
- Super Attack 2: Shattering Beam: A follow-up to Exploding Rage. Charges forward and performs a kick, followed by a large energy explosion. Enemies hit by the initial kick are staggered. Gohan’s two staggers make him a potent setup character for his pocketed DPS.
Kid Gohan is ideal for players who enjoy enabling their teammates and setting up plays with well-timed crowd control.
Piccolo (DPS)
Concept: “Your rush attacks and skills have tremendous range. The power of Special Beam Cannon increases the longer you charge the attack.”
Piccolo is a DPS powerhouse with unparalleled range, making him a unique threat on the battlefield.
- Passive: For Victory: Attacking enemies with a rush attack temporarily lowers cooldowns of his skills.
- Light Grenade: Fires a powerful energy blast. At skill level two, an explosion occurs at the point of impact, with damage and AoE increasing with distance from the target. This provides excellent ranged poke and zone control.
- Demonic Floating Blast: Fires an energy blast upwards that drops onto an approaching enemy. If used again or the effect expires, it falls to the ground, exploding and applying movement speed down. This skill is tricky but creates a “minefield” for enemies, allowing for significant area denial.
- Magic Whip Fist: Stretches arms and moves instantly to any enemy, ally, or wall. After moving, his next rush attack releases a powerful energy blast with increased damage. This acts as Piccolo’s mobility and escape tool.
- Super Attack: Special Beam Cannon: A penetrating energy beam that goes through enemies and walls. Holding the button expends multiple stocks, increasing damage, range, and radius. A fully charged Special Beam Cannon is an incredibly potent, potentially one-shotting ability.
Piccolo’s insane range and the sheer power of his Special Beam Cannon make him a nightmare for opponents who can’t get close.
Krillin (Technical Support)
Concept: “Blind enemies and set traps to obstruct them debuff your enemies then finish them with the Kian which is destructive disc obviously.”
Krillin is a technical support character focused on map control, debuffs, and setting up plays with his tricky abilities.
- Passive: Technician: Applying “mark” to enemies immediately lowers the cooldown on his skills and super attack.
- Placed Energy Blast: Places an invisible energy blast that explodes after a set time when an enemy comes into range. The explosion shrinks their field of view and applies “mark.” These traps are excellent for area denial and vision impairment.
- Solar Flare: Unleashes powerful light, applying “flash marking” and all attack down to enemies facing Krillin. This is a strong debuff and setup tool.
- Scattering Energy Wave: Fires a controllable energy blast. When it hits an enemy or object, or when used again, it disperses, releasing smoke. If an enemy is “marked,” the energy blast will pursue them, obstructing their vision.
- Super Attack: Destructo Disc: Unleashes an energy disc that can penetrate enemies and walls. If an enemy is “marked,” the disc pursues them. If an enemy with over three debuffs comes into contact with the center, they receive extra damage.
Krillin’s kit makes him a “shifty” character who excels at disrupting enemy movements and vision, setting up devastating combos for his teammates.
Frieza (First Form) (Technical Support)
Concept: “Move around the battlefield with your subordinates Zarbon and Dorya. Command both of them strategically to dominate the map.”
Pod Frieza is a unique technical support character who commands his subordinates, Zarbon and Dorya, to control the battlefield.
- Passive: Fearsome Emperor: Increases movement speed during high-speed flight and prevents flight from being interrupted by attacks. This allows Frieza to quickly reposition.
- Show them Zarbon: Positions Zarbon to attack enemies in an area with energy blasts, prioritizing targets in rush attacks. Hits apply strike defense down. Zarbon acts as a placed turret.
- Crush them Dorya: Positions Dorya to attack enemies in an area with lunge attacks, prioritizing targets in rush attacks. Hits forcibly move enemies. Dorya provides strong crowd control.
- Imperial Decree: Grants Frieza and allies movement speed up and creates an area that raises Zarbon and Dorya’s attack speed. Effects last longer if allies or subordinates are nearby. This enhances Frieza’s mobility and his subordinates’ offensive power.
- Super Attack: Supernova: Drops an enormous energy blast. Charging increases size and range. All enemies in the AoE are afflicted with all attack down. This is a massive, team-wide debuffing ultimate.
Frieza’s playstyle revolves around strategic placement of his subordinates and debuffing the enemy team, making him a complex but rewarding support.
Majin Buu (Technical Support)
Concept: “Heal the HP of yourself and your allies use candy ray to turn enemy heroes into candy and eat them up.”
Majin Buu is a highly support-oriented technical character, focusing on healing, debuffs, and unique crowd control.
- Passive: Majin Menace: Gains stock when healing himself or allies, or when applying debuffs to enemies. Rush attacks consume stocks for a damage boost.
- Strangle Gum: Throws ensnaring gum that applies all attack down and movement speed down to enemies, and also expands their hitbox, making them easier to hit. This is a powerful debuff and setup tool.
- Healing Ray: Heals the HP of himself and allies. Healing effect increases the closer the ally is and stops if they move too far. Higher levels heal more allies. Buu can move while using this. This is his primary healing ability, similar to a healing beam.
- Ready Go Attack: Attacks while moving, applying strike defense up to himself. Applies no skills to enemies hit but forcibly moves them. You can change direction or cancel. This provides some offensive and positional disruption.
- Super Attack: Candy Ray: Fires a beam of light that turns enemy heroes into candy and creates an AoE that heals Buu and allies. The more enemies turned into candy, the greater the healing effect. This unique ultimate offers both crowd control and massive healing potential.
Majin Buu is a frontline support who can turn the tide of battle with his healing, debuffs, and transformative ultimate.
