The collaboration between Fortnite and Overwatch 2 has introduced several special items inspired by popular Overwatch heroes, and one of the most unique additions is Mercy’s Caduceus Staff. Unlike most items in Fortnite, this one is not focused on damage or eliminations. Instead, it gives players strong healing and mobility support during matches.

For squad players especially, the Caduceus Staff can completely change how fights play out. Keeping teammates alive during intense battles often matters more than carrying another weapon, and this item does that surprisingly well. Here is everything you need to know about finding and using the Caduceus Staff in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2.

Where to Find the Caduceus Staff in Fortnite

Even though the Caduceus Staff is classified as a Legendary item, it is actually fairly common compared to many other high-rarity items in the game.

Players can find the staff through several loot sources across the island, including:

  • Regular Chests
  • Floor Loot
  • Overwatch Loot Caches

Another reliable way to get the item is through Rivalry Vending Machines. These vending machines appear as sword icons on the map and allow players to purchase special crossover items using Rivalry Credits.

If you specifically want the Caduceus Staff early in a match, Rivalry Vending Machines are usually the fastest guaranteed option.

How the Caduceus Staff Works

The Caduceus Staff is designed entirely around support gameplay. Instead of dealing damage, the item focuses on healing, mobility, and survivability.

Healing Beam Ability

The primary ability activates when players hold the fire button. Doing this creates a healing beam that restores both health and shields. The beam can be used on:

  • Teammates
  • Yourself when no teammates are nearby

The staff provides up to 300 total effective HP healing at a rate of 5 HP per second. During squad fights, this can make a massive difference, especially after surviving heavy combat or rotating into late-game safe zones. A player constantly healing teammates during battles can often keep the entire squad alive much longer than expected.

Gliding Ability

The second ability focuses on movement. When players hold the aim button while airborne, the Caduceus Staff allows them to glide slowly through the air. This helps with:

  • Crossing gaps safely
  • Escaping dangerous situations
  • Rotating from high ground
  • Avoiding fast fall speed

The glide effect feels very useful during late-game movement where positioning becomes important.

Passive Fall Damage Protection

The Caduceus Staff also includes a hidden passive effect that many players may overlook at first. Simply holding the staff reduces falling speed automatically. Because of this, players can avoid fall damage in situations that would normally cause heavy damage after jumping from high places. This extra safety makes the item even more valuable during fast rotations or vertical fights.

Is the Caduceus Staff Worth Using?

For squad matches, the answer is definitely yes. The Caduceus Staff fills a role that very few items in Fortnite currently cover. Most healing items only help the player using them, while this staff allows direct support for teammates during active fights. Being able to heal allies while they continue fighting gives squads a major advantage in longer battles. Even in solo matches, the item still offers strong utility thanks to:

  • Self-healing
  • Slow gliding
  • Fall damage protection

Players who prefer aggressive combat may still prioritize weapons, but support-focused players will probably find the Caduceus Staff extremely useful throughout Chapter 7 Season 2. With the Fortnite x Overwatch event currently active, this item has quickly become one of the most interesting utility additions in the game.
