Dokkodo is one of the newest samurai-themed Roblox games, and while the story does a decent job introducing the basics, many new players can still feel lost when it comes to leveling, earning money, learning skills, and unlocking important features.
Fortunately, the game is heavily story-driven, so progressing through the main quests will naturally guide you toward most areas and mechanics. If you’re just starting your journey, here’s everything you need to know to get stronger and progress faster.
1. Character Creation Guide
When creating your character, you’ll first choose between two starting weapons:
- Sword
- Spear
Each weapon has its own fighting style, so pick whichever suits your preferred playstyle. You’ll also receive a Marking, which grants certain bonuses to your character. If you aren’t happy with your Marking, you can reroll it.
You’ll also select a Spirit, which affects your gameplay style. Don’t worry too much about making mistakes here since most of the game’s progression comes from learning mechanics and improving your equipment.
2. How Leveling Works in Dokkodo
Unlike most Roblox RPGs, Dokkodo doesn’t level you up automatically. Instead, you’ll occasionally receive a message saying that your Spirit has awakened. When this happens:
- Press M to open the map.
- Locate the nearest Shrine.
- Travel to the shrine.
- Pray and select Awaken.
- Fight your Inner Self.
- Defeat it to level up.
Every time you win, you’ll gain access to another passive slot and continue strengthening your character. Your Inner Self becomes stronger over time, but it remains manageable throughout early progression.
3. Best Money Farming Method for Beginners
Money is extremely important since you’ll need it for weapons, armor, and horses. One of the easiest early-game farms is located near the starting town.
- Head southeast from town near the blacksmith.
- Travel toward the Kyoto Outskirts.
- Find the first Bandit Camp.
- Eliminate all enemies and loot everything.
- Continue to the second camp behind the first one.
- Defeat the enemies there as well.
- Repeat the route after they respawn.
Once your inventory is full, return to town and sell the items you collected. This loop provides plenty of money for beginners and is one of the fastest ways to get equipped early.
4. Buying Better Weapons
After earning enough cash, visit the Blacksmith in town. Here you can purchase:
- Better Katanas
- Spears
- Bows
- Arrows and Ammunition
- Naginata (Polearm)
- Odachi (Great Sword)
Each weapon type has a different moveset and fighting style, so experiment and find one that suits your preference.
5. Best Armor for Beginners
The Blacksmith also sells armor.
Beginner Armor
- Tatami Gosuku
This armor doesn’t require any special conditions.
Advanced Armor
- Doshi Gosuku
This armor requires a Retainer License, which you’ll obtain after becoming part of the Shogunate.
6. How to Get a Horse
Open your map and locate the Stable. Talk to the Stable Master to purchase your first mount.
- Farm Horse (No requirements)
- Samurai Horse (Requires Stable Master’s Favor and Retainer License)
To unlock better horses, you’ll need to increase your reputation and complete side quests around town.
7. How to Increase Reputation
Reputation is used for various quests and unlocks. There are two easy ways to earn it:
Complete Side Quests
Look for NPCs with an exclamation mark above their heads. Completing their missions rewards one reputation point.
Defeat Ronin NPCs
Open your map and look for Question Mark icons. These are Ronin enemies. Challenge and defeat them to receive:
- +1 Reputation
Both methods are effective, so use whichever is easier.
8. How to Learn Skills and Stances
Dokkodo features three Dojos, each containing different stances and abilities. Every stance comes with unique skills, and you can eventually learn multiple styles as long as you meet the mastery requirements. The story gradually introduces these dojos, so you don’t need to rush finding them. Different stances specialize in different combat styles, giving players more freedom to create their own builds.
9. How to Become a Shogun
Becoming part of the Shogunate unlocks several important features.
Step 1: Commander Favor Quest
Go behind the Stable and cross the bridge. You’ll find an NPC that gives the Commander’s Favor quest. He’ll ask you to infiltrate the Sohei Outpost in Nara.
Step 2: Visit the Sohei Outpost
Travel to Nara and head south from the village. Simply entering the outpost is enough, although you can defeat enemies there if you want. Return to the Commander afterward.
Step 3: Visit Neiju Castle
Head back to the beginner area and enter Neiju Castle. Open the door and sit on the mat. Keep selecting the first dialogue options until the commander asks you to defeat his retainers. After completing the challenge, you’ll receive your Retainer License.
This unlocks:
- Better armor.
- Samurai horses.
- Additional progression options.
Dokkodo may seem confusing at first, but most of its progression becomes straightforward once you understand the leveling system and reputation mechanics. Focus on following the story, farming Bandit Camps for money, and unlocking your Retainer License as soon as possible. Doing so will give you access to better equipment, horses, and more opportunities as you continue your samurai journey.
