Universal Tower Defense Z Extraction Mode Guide: Team Cost, Golden Palace, Crime Fighting, Rewards, and Tips

Universal Tower Defense Z Update 4.0 introduces one of the game’s biggest additions yet with the arrival of Extraction Mode. Unlike traditional stages where players simply defend against waves until the end, Extraction Mode transforms gameplay into a large-scale adventure that combines exploration, objectives, boss battles, and a risky escape mechanic.

Whether you’re playing solo or teaming up with friends, every run requires careful planning. You must manage your team composition, survive dangerous encounters, defeat powerful bosses, and successfully extract before time runs out. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Extraction Mode in Universal Tower Defense Z.

What Is Extraction Mode?

Extraction Mode is a new game mode that blends exploration with tower defense gameplay. Instead of progressing through a single linear stage, players enter a large map filled with objectives, random encounters, hidden rewards, elite enemies, and bosses.

Every Extraction stage follows its own unique rules and mechanics, but they all share several core systems that determine how each run plays out. The biggest difference is that simply defeating the boss isn’t enough. You must also escape successfully to keep everything you’ve earned during the run.

Team Cost System Explained

Before entering an Extraction stage, you’ll build your squad using the new Team Cost System. Each player receives 100 Team Points, which are spent based on the rarity of each unit.

  • Universal / Boundless 35 Points
  • Secret 25 Points
  • Exclusive / Mythic 15 Points
  • Legendary 5 Points
  • Epic 3 Points
  • Rare 1 Point

This system prevents players from bringing only the strongest characters, encouraging more balanced team building and strategic choices. Some featured event units are exempt from the point limit and can be added without consuming Team Points. Another helpful feature is the ability to change your loadout during a run. Certain special rooms allow players to swap units, making it easier to adapt to upcoming challenges.

Life Stock System Explained

Extraction Mode also introduces a shared Life Stock mechanic. Each run begins with three Life Stocks. Here’s how it works:

  • Losing a regular stage consumes one Life Stock.
  • Losing an Extraction Stage also costs one Life Stock.
  • Losing a boss battle immediately removes all remaining Life Stocks.

Since boss defeats are far more punishing, preparing before challenging them is extremely important.

How the Extraction System Works

Extraction is the most important part of every run. After defeating bosses and collecting rewards, you’ll need to escape through designated Extraction Zones. These extraction points appear throughout the map at regular intervals before a final extraction opportunity is announced. Successfully extracting allows you to keep every reward earned during the run.

If you fail to extract because you lose the Extraction Stage or simply miss the final extraction point, you’ll lose all rewards collected during that session. Players who don’t feel confident fighting the final boss can also choose an early extraction. While this lets you safely keep current rewards, you’ll miss out on boss-exclusive drops.

1. Golden Palace Map Guide

Golden Palace is one of the first Extraction Mode maps introduced in Update 4.0. Players explore an enormous palace while completing objectives, battling enemies, unlocking secret rooms, and eventually confronting the area’s final boss. Successfully defeating the boss and escaping rewards players with:

  • Phantom Stealer Relic Set
  • Wild Card unit
  • Wild Card evolution item

However, the Golden Palace features several unique mechanics that make it significantly different from normal stages.

Stealth and Encounter System

Unlike traditional combat, enemies throughout the palace actively patrol hallways. Players can avoid detection by hiding behind cover or moving between hiding spots using Shadow Step. Choosing when to engage enemies affects the difficulty of each battle.

  • Ambush Attacking an enemy before it notices you starts a standard combat encounter.
  • Detected Combat If an enemy spots you before combat begins, enemies receive 1.5× increased HP and become immune to Critical Hits.
  • Enemy Ambush Allowing enemies to attack first creates the most difficult encounter.

Enemies receive:

  • 2× Health
  • Immunity to Critical Hits
  • Immunity to Damage over Time effects

Because of this, careful movement through the palace can dramatically reduce overall difficulty.

Locked Rooms and Elite Enemies

While exploring the palace, Elite Encounters may appear randomly. Completing these stages rewards special keys that unlock optional Locked Rooms. There are four different Locked Rooms available.

Three Mini-Boss Rooms

The first three rooms each contain a unique mini-boss. After defeating one, players may choose one of three Arcana rewards, each containing either:

  • A Phantom unit
  • A Phantom evolution item

These rooms provide one of the best opportunities to strengthen your collection during Extraction Mode.

Velvet Room

The fourth Locked Room is much rarer. Known as the Velvet Room, it requires a special key earned through Trickster’s Trial quests. Inside, players meet Gregory, who rewards the Trickster evolution item.

Golden Palace Boss Battle

Progress through the palace by filling the objective meter. Players increase progress by:

  • Exploring new areas
  • Defeating enemies
  • Opening treasure chests
  • Unlocking Locked Rooms
  • Clearing encounters

Once the objective meter is full, the Palace Boss becomes available. After defeating the boss, players must still complete the Extraction Stage before leaving the palace. Successfully escaping secures all earned rewards.

Phantom Units Cost No Team Points

One major advantage inside Extraction Mode is that Phantom units require zero Team Points. This makes them excellent additions to almost any loadout since they don’t reduce your available team budget.

2. Crime Fighting Map Guide

Crime Fighting offers a completely different experience compared to Golden Palace. Instead of exploring a palace, players become superheroes protecting a massive city inspired by New York  Completing missions eventually leads to powerful villains and exclusive unit rewards. Available rewards include:

  • Hero Relic Set
  • Human Spider
  • Iron Hero
  • Symbiotic Alien
  • Evolution items for each unit

One of the most exciting additions in Crime Fighting is Web Swinging. Players can quickly move between rooftops and city streets, allowing much faster travel than traditional movement. This mobility makes completing objectives far more efficient while also encouraging exploration across the entire map.

Rather than following a fixed route, players complete randomly generated objectives throughout the city.

Activities include:

  • Fighting criminals
  • Delivering pizzas
  • Investigating suspicious activity
  • Tracking supervillains

Each completed activity fills progress bars that unlock stronger enemies and eventually reveal the final boss. Larger teams generate more simultaneous objectives, making cooperative play even more rewarding.

Mini-Stage World Events

Throughout the city, random world events periodically appear. Nearby players can join these temporary mini-stages before combat begins. Successfully completing these events helps advance both Main Quests and Side Quests while rewarding exclusive drops. Many of these encounters also provide opportunities to obtain:

  • Iron Hero
  • Human Spider
  • Symbiotic Alien
  • Evolution materials

After completing enough Side Quest objectives, powerful mini-bosses appear across the city. These encounters serve as one of the primary ways to earn:

  • Iron Hero
  • Human Spider

Players looking to collect both units should prioritize finishing Side Quests whenever possible.

Final Boss Encounter

Completing enough Main Quest objectives eventually reveals the city’s final boss. This encounter features a 15-wave battle against the Symbiotic Alien. Unlike regular encounters, this boss introduces exclusive mechanics while offering the chance to obtain:

  • Symbiotic Alien
  • Exclusive boss rewards

Defeating the boss is only part of the challenge, however. Players must still extract successfully to keep their rewards.

Just like Golden Palace, Crime Fighting uses the same extraction mechanics. Extraction Zones periodically appear throughout the city, allowing players to leave safely. Eventually, a final extraction point appears. Missing this final opportunity—or failing the Extraction Stage—causes players to lose every reward earned during that run. Players who prefer playing safely can leave earlier, although doing so means giving up any boss-exclusive rewards.

Tips for Playing Extraction Mode

To maximize your rewards and survive longer runs, keep these tips in mind:

  • Build balanced teams that stay within the 100 Team Point limit.
  • Save Life Stocks whenever possible, since boss defeats consume them all.
  • Always watch the extraction timer to avoid losing your rewards.
  • Complete optional objectives to unlock stronger loot and exclusive rewards.
  • Use Phantom units whenever possible since they cost no Team Points.
  • In Golden Palace, avoid being detected to prevent stronger enemy encounters.
  • In Crime Fighting, prioritize Side Quests if you’re farming Human Spider or Iron Hero before challenging the final boss.

Extraction Mode completely changes how Universal Tower Defense Z is played by combining exploration, strategic combat, risk management, and high-value rewards into one experience. Both Golden Palace and Crime Fighting offer unique mechanics that encourage different playstyles, whether you’re sneaking through enemy territory or swinging across the city to stop supervillains. With the addition of the Team Cost System, Life Stocks, and mandatory extractions, every decision matters, making each run feel rewarding while adding a new layer of challenge beyond traditional tower defense stages.
