Digimon UP Beginner Guide: Gameplay, Gacha, Partner Digimon & Free Rewards

Digimon UP is a free-to-play mobile RPG that combines classic Digimon raising mechanics with idle gameplay. Instead of collecting a large roster of playable Digimon, you’ll focus on raising a single partner from its DigiEgg all the way to its Mega Digivolution. Along the way, you’ll train your Digimon, strengthen it with supporters and Skill Cards, and challenge both PvE and PvP content. If you’re planning to jump into the game at launch, here’s everything you need to know about its gameplay systems, gacha mechanics, starter partners, and launch rewards.

Gameplay Overview

Unlike traditional turn-based RPGs, Digimon UP features automatic battles. Your Digimon fights on its own, so progression depends more on preparation than manual combat. Improving your partner’s stats, choosing the right support Digimon, and equipping powerful Skill Cards are the keys to clearing tougher stages.

The game also includes a virtual pet system inspired by classic Digimon devices. You’ll raise your partner by feeding it, training it, and helping it evolve through each Digivolution stage until it eventually reaches its Mega form.

Besides story progression, players can participate in PvP rankings and interact with other Tamers through the Camp, a social area where players can chat and meet.

Choose Your Starter Partner

At the beginning of the game, you’ll choose a DigiEgg that determines your first partner Digimon.

There are 15 starter Digimon available, including many fan favorites such as:

• Agumon
• Gabumon
• Palmon
• Patamon
• Veemon
• Other Digimon from various anime series

Your chosen Digimon starts as a Baby Digimon before evolving through multiple stages. Based on currently available information, you’ll mainly use this partner until it reaches its Mega Digivolution, after which additional partner options may become available. Since you’ll spend a lot of time with your starter, it’s worth choosing your favorite rather than worrying about early-game strength.

Training and Raising Your Digimon

Much of your progression comes from raising your partner instead of manually battling. Some of the main training systems include:

• Feeding Digi Meat grown from Meat Fields.
• Running and other physical training.
• Waterfall training.
• Improving various stats through different activities.

Feeding your Digimon can also provide random buff skills, meaning two players using the same partner may end up with different builds. This adds some variety and customization beyond simply increasing stats. Players can also customize their human Tamer with cosmetic outfits and equipment.

Team Building Explained

Although you only control one main partner Digimon, your team consists of several different components. Your team includes:

• 1 Partner Digimon
• Up to 5 Support Digimon
• Equipped Skill Cards

Support Digimon provide additional stats and combat support, while Skill Cards activate special effects during battle. Building the right combination of these systems is important because battles are fully automated.

Gacha System

Digimon UP doesn’t use a traditional character gacha for your main partner. Instead, the game features two separate summon banners:

Support Digimon Summons

These banners let you recruit Support Digimon that strengthen your main partner during battle.

Skill Card Summons

These banners reward Skill Cards that provide different abilities and passive effects for combat.

At launch, important details such as summon rates, pity mechanics, banner schedules, and rarity information have not been fully revealed. Players will need to wait until release to learn exactly how generous the gacha system is.

Thanks to reaching over 1 million pre-registrations, all players can claim several launch rewards. Current rewards include:

Keep in mind that while the game gives away 450 summon tickets for both banners, it hasn’t been confirmed how many tickets each summon costs. The total number of pulls will depend on the final summon cost after launch.

Players can also earn additional summon tickets by completing missions.

PvP and Social Features

Digimon UP includes competitive PvP where players can battle for rankings. Current information suggests these matches are not real-time battles but are instead based on your team’s overall strength. The game also features a Camp system where Tamers can meet and chat with other players. At launch, there has been no official confirmation of guild or clan systems.

Digimon UP offers a different take on the Digimon formula by combining virtual pet mechanics with idle RPG progression. Rather than managing a large roster of playable Digimon, you’ll spend most of your time raising a single partner while strengthening it with Support Digimon and Skill Cards.

Although many details about the gacha system are still unknown, the generous pre-registration rewards give new players plenty of resources to begin their adventure. As more information becomes available after launch, players will have a better idea of the game’s long-term progression and free-to-play friendliness.
