What Do Rods Do in Heavyweight Fishing?

Every Rod in Heavyweight Fishing comes with its own Power and Luck values. Power determines how strong the Rod is for catching Fish, while Luck helps with the chance of getting better catches.

As you unlock new Islands, you will find Rods with higher Power and, in some cases, much better Luck. Because later Islands have Power requirements, upgrading your Rod is not just about getting better stats. It can also help you continue progressing through the game. You can obtain most Rods by visiting the Rod Seller NPC on the Island where they are available.

How to Get Rods in Heavyweight Fishing

Getting Rods is fairly simple once you reach the correct Island. Each Island has a Rod Seller NPC, and interacting with the NPC lets you see the equipment available in that area. Most Rods can simply be purchased using the required amount of money. However, some of the stronger options require additional steps.

The basic process is:

• Travel to the Island where the Rod is available.
• Find the Rod Seller NPC.
• Interact with the NPC.
• Check the available Rods.
• Buy the Rod if you have enough money.
• For Quest-based Rods, complete the required Quest first.
• For the Mythic Rods, use the crafting option at a Rod Seller.

The main exception is the Cryo Gravity Rod and Soul Thorn Rod, which require Quests before you can obtain them. The Heavenpiercer Rod and Pure Diamond Rod are crafted rather than bought normally.

Which Rod Should You Upgrade To?

Generally, you should aim for a Rod with higher Power when you are trying to move to a new Island. However, Luck is also important if you are focused on getting better catches.

For example, the Cryo Gravity Rod has 65 Power and 36 Luck, while the Soul Thorn Rod has 75 Power but only 19 Luck. This means the better choice can depend on whether you care more about reaching higher Power or getting the benefit of higher Luck.

The most powerful options currently listed are Heavenpiercer Rod and Pure Diamond Rod, both with 100 Power. If you are aiming for the strongest possible fishing setup, these should be among your long-term goals.
