How to Get Rien in Legacy Piece: Full Index Quest Guide

Legacy Piece has received a new update featuring characters from Limbus Company, including Rien and Araya. Along with the new characters, the update introduces UI improvements, performance fixes, and new speed modes designed to make the game easier to run on lower-end devices.

If your main goal is to unlock Rien, there is a fairly long questline to complete. You will need to work through the new Index faction system, complete contracts, gather several rare materials, and eventually defeat Rien in the House of Spiders dungeon.

This guide explains the entire process from starting the Index quest to unlocking Rien and understanding how the character’s unique passive works. Also check out our Legacy Piece Codes for more rewards!

How to Start the Rien Quest in Legacy Piece

Your first objective is to travel to Great Island and find the Index NPC. Speak with the NPC to begin the questline connected to Rien. The first part of the quest is relatively straightforward. You need to defeat a Level 20,000 boss on either Hard or Extreme difficulty.

You are not restricted to one specific boss for this requirement. Any suitable Level 20,000 boss can count, including bosses such as Undyne and other high-level encounters. After completing this requirement, you will be introduced to the new Index faction system and can begin working toward the rank required to unlock Rien’s main quest.

Complete Index Contracts

The next major part of the progression involves Contracts, which can be found through the Quests menu under the bounty section.

Contracts come with different rarities, and their difficulty increases depending on the rarity. To progress through the initial Index requirements, you need to complete:

  • 5 Legendary contracts
  • 5 Mythical contracts

You can interact with the available contracts in several ways, including accepting missions, rerolling them, rejecting them, and completing them. Choose the missions that you can handle efficiently, especially if you are trying to progress through the Index ranks quickly.

Once the required contracts have been completed, you will receive access to the Index device.

Legacy Piece Index Faction Ranks

The Index system works as a faction progression mechanic. Completing Index missions gives you experience, which increases your Index level and eventually unlocks stronger ranks.

There are four main Index ranks:

  • Level 1 – Proselyte
  • Level 2 – Messenger
  • Level 3 – Proxy
  • Level 4 – Oracle’s Proxy

Each rank provides additional benefits, including improvements to your character’s damage and health.

For the purpose of unlocking Rien, you do not need to reach the maximum Index rank. Your main target is Index Level 3, Proxy.

Reach Index Level 3 Proxy

After entering the Index faction, continue completing available contracts and missions to earn Index experience.

The more missions you successfully complete, the more experience you receive. Keep progressing until your Index reaches Level 3: Proxy.

This is an important requirement because the Rien quest itself will not become available until you reach this rank.

Once you become a Proxy, return to the Index NPC at Great Island. You can then begin the next stage of the Rien unlock quest.

Restore the Oracle Device

The next part of the Rien quest requires you to restore an Oracle device. To repair it, you need to collect three different components:

  • Alloy
  • Ink
  • Core

Each material comes from a different activity, so this section can take considerably longer than the initial Index requirements.

How to Get Alloy

Alloy is obtained by defeating a Level 20,000 boss on Extreme difficulty.

The drop chance is only 0.9%, making it one of the more time-consuming materials to farm. Fortunately, the item has a 50-run pity system.

This means you can continue farming the appropriate bosses without having to rely entirely on luck. If the Alloy does not drop during your attempts, the pity mechanic gives you a guaranteed route toward eventually obtaining it.

How to Get Ink

The second material is Ink.

To obtain Ink, you need to defeat a Level 20,000 boss on Extreme difficulty while completing the run without dying.

This makes the requirement more demanding than simply farming for Alloy. Your team needs to be strong enough to survive the entire encounter, since dying will prevent you from meeting the requirement.

If you are struggling with this part, it is worth improving your damage and survivability before repeatedly attempting the boss.

How to Get Core

The final Oracle device material is Core.

There are two ways to satisfy this requirement:

  • Clear 5 dungeons.
  • Clear 20 Tower floors.

You can choose whichever activity is easier for your current character and team. If you are already comfortable running dungeons, completing five of them may be the quicker option. Otherwise, Tower progression can be used as an alternative.

Complete the Nine Prescripts

After collecting the required Oracle device components, the quest continues with another set of objectives involving nine Prescripts.

These tasks are generally simple, but there is an important restriction: you must complete them within the required time limit.

Because of the time requirement, avoid leaving the game idle while working through the Prescripts. Prepare your character beforehand and complete each task as efficiently as possible.

Once all nine Prescripts have been completed, you can continue the quest by returning to the Index NPC.

Enter the House of Spiders Dungeon

After completing the Prescripts, return to the Index NPC to receive the next objective.

You will then need to enter the House of Spiders dungeon.

This is the final major combat challenge in the Rien questline. Unlike a normal dungeon run with multiple waves, the Rien encounter is structured as a one-wave battle.

Your objective is simple: defeat the Rien boss.

Make sure your character is properly prepared before entering because this battle serves as the final step of the main quest.

Defeat Rien in House of Spiders

The final requirement is to defeat Rien inside House of Spiders.

Once the boss has been defeated, you are essentially finished with the main quest requirements. However, there is still another step before Rien is fully unlocked.

You need to continue farming the dungeon for the required drops and title associated with Rien.

After obtaining everything required, Rien will finally be unlocked as a playable ability.

Rien Ability Showcase

Rien has a particularly unusual moveset compared with many other abilities in Legacy Piece. One of the most noticeable features is that different attacks use different weapons, giving the character a varied combat style.

However, the most important part of Rien’s kit is the passive system.

Rather than simply providing a permanent stat bonus, the passive introduces a timing-based mechanic that rewards players for successfully following up their attacks.

How Rien’s Grace Passive Works

Rien’s passive effectively works like a small combat minigame.

When you attack an enemy, you place a mark on the target. You then have approximately 7 seconds to successfully perform the required follow-up.

If you successfully hit the follow-up attack within the window, you gain a damage increase along with additional passive benefits.

Every successful sequence adds a Grace stack.

The Grace progression works as follows:

  • 3 Grace: Gain 10% skill cooldown reduction.
  • 6 Grace: Gain 30% damage reduction.
  • 9 Grace: Unlock Furioso Replica.
  • 9 Grace: Refill the Shin gauge and upgrade the Shin move.

This means players are rewarded for consistently landing their attacks instead of simply using abilities without paying attention to the timing mechanic.

What Happens If You Miss the Follow-Up?

The Grace system comes with a risk.

If you fail to land the required follow-up, Rien can receive random debuffs. This means the passive is not simply a free source of buffs.

Players need to pay attention to the timing window and successfully maintain the sequence if they want to get the most out of Rien.

The mechanic gives the character a higher skill requirement compared with abilities that can simply be used whenever their cooldowns are available.

Rien Phase Two

Rien also has a second phase that dramatically changes how the character performs.

Phase Two activates after using Furioso Replica or when Rien reaches approximately 55% health.

Once this phase begins, the penalties associated with the passive are converted into powerful buffs.

The Phase Two bonuses include:

  • Up to 3x damage.
  • 75% ability damage.
  • Infinite Shin until the character dies.
  • Conversion of previous penalties into beneficial effects.

This makes Phase Two particularly powerful during longer battles, especially against bosses with large health pools.

Is Rien Worth Unlocking?

Rien appears to be a strong choice for players willing to learn its unique mechanics. The character is not simply about having high damage numbers; much of its potential comes from maintaining the Grace sequence and reaching the later stages of the passive.

The biggest advantage is the large collection of bonuses available at higher Grace counts. Once the character reaches the required stacks, the cooldown reduction, damage reduction, Furioso Replica, Shin restoration, and Phase Two effects can significantly improve its performance.

However, the timing mechanic means Rien may take some practice to use properly. Players who regularly miss the follow-up attacks can lose the benefits of the passive and potentially receive unwanted debuffs.

Legacy Piece Update Features

The Rien quest is not the only addition in this Legacy Piece update. The update also introduces Araya, another character inspired by Limbus Company.

There are also several quality-of-life improvements that should make the game run better, particularly for players using lower-end devices.

The update includes:

  • New Rien character.
  • New Araya character.
  • UI changes.
  • Performance improvements.
  • Fast Mode.
  • Ultra Fast Mode.
  • New Index faction system.
  • New Index contracts.
  • House of Spiders dungeon content.
  • New Rien-related equipment and rewards.

Fast Mode and Ultra Fast Mode are especially useful if your device struggles with the game’s normal visual effects.

Unlocking Rien in Legacy Piece requires more work than simply defeating a single boss. You first need to visit the Index NPC on Great Island, complete the required Legendary and Mythical contracts, reach Index Level 3: Proxy, and then work through the Oracle device quest.

From there, you need to gather Alloy, Ink, and Core, complete nine Prescripts within their time limits, and defeat Rien inside the House of Spiders dungeon. Finally, farming the required drops and title will complete the unlock process.

Once obtained, Rien offers a very different combat experience thanks to the Grace passive. Successfully chaining attacks can provide cooldown reduction, damage reduction, Furioso Replica, and eventually a powerful Phase Two with major damage and ability bonuses. For players willing to learn its timing-based mechanics, Rien looks like one of the more interesting additions in the latest Legacy Piece update.
