The main problem is that the Mutation Consumable only has a 10% success chance. That means you can burn through several of them without getting anything. However, with enough Boss Tokens and a little patience, you can keep trying until the mutation finally works.
1. Farm Boss Tokens From Abyss Overlord
The first thing you need is a good amount of Boss Tokens. Abyss Overlord is one of the best ways to get them because defeating the boss gives you a large amount of tokens. When a Rift appears, enter it and start the Abyss Overlord fight. The first part of the battle requires you to destroy the crystals around the boss. Once the crystals are gone, you can start attacking its hands.
The boss becomes much easier when there are only a few players in the fight because its HP scales depending on the number of players. With one or two players, you may be able to defeat it much faster. After killing Abyss Overlord, you can collect your Boss Tokens and use them to purchase Mutation Consumables.
2. Get the 50% Boss Token Boost
There is also a useful 50% Boss Token boost that you should get if you are planning to farm for Mutation Consumables. With the boost active, the amount of Boss Tokens earned from defeating the boss increases.
For example, a reward of around 1,200 tokens can become roughly 1,800 tokens with the 50% bonus. This makes a big difference when you need several Mutation Consumables because the 10% success rate means you may need a lot of attempts.
3. Buy Mutation Consumables
Once you have enough Boss Tokens, head over to the shop and purchase Mutation Consumables. Each consumable costs Boss Tokens and gives you a 10% chance of successfully applying the mutation to an egg. There is no guarantee that the first attempt will work.
During the first attempts, several consumables were used on a large egg, but every single one failed. Six attempts were not enough to trigger the mutation. This is why it is better to farm a large amount of Boss Tokens before starting the mutation process.
4. Apply the Mutation to Your Egg
Choose the egg you want to mutate and make sure you stand close enough to it. The game can give you a message telling you to get closer if you are too far away. Once you are in the correct position, use the Mutation Consumable on the egg.
The success chance is only 10%, so failing multiple times is completely possible. In the example, the large On Tiger egg needed several attempts before finally getting the mutation. You should not be discouraged if your first few consumables fail. Keep farming Boss Tokens and continue trying.
5. Save Your Best Eggs
It is a good idea to save your larger and more valuable eggs for mutation attempts. A successful mutation on a strong egg can result in a much more valuable pet after hatching. The large On Tiger egg used in this attempt was kept specifically for this purpose. After several failed attempts, the mutation finally succeeded. In total, around 11 Mutation Consumables were used before the desired result appeared.
6. Hatch the Mutated Eggs
After successfully applying the mutations, you can hatch the eggs and see what pets you receive. The first results included a Unicorn worth around 8B and a Gorilla King worth around 15B. Both were good results, especially considering their size and mutations.
However, the biggest surprise came from the large On Tiger egg. After hatching it, the result was a Rainbow + Fractured On Tiger with a value of around 88B per second.
7. Rainbow + Fractured On Tiger
The Rainbow + Fractured On Tiger became the best pet from the entire attempt, reaching around 88B per second. The Rainbow mutation also gives the pet a noticeable appearance, making it stand out from normal versions. Combined with Fractured, the result was much more valuable than the other pets obtained during the session.
What makes the result even better is how many failed attempts happened before getting it. The large egg required around 11 Mutation Consumables, while some smaller eggs managed to succeed on their first attempt. This shows how unpredictable the 10% mutation chance can be.
Tips for Getting Expensive Mutated Pets
If you want to try getting a Rainbow + Fractured pet yourself, prepare before spending your Boss Tokens.
- Farm as many Boss Tokens as possible.
- Fight Abyss Overlord whenever the Rift appears.
- Get the 50% Boss Token boost if you can.
- Buy multiple Mutation Consumables instead of just one or two.
- Save your best eggs for mutation attempts.
- Stand close to the egg when applying the consumable.
- Expect several failed attempts because the success chance is only 10%.
- Keep farming if you run out of consumables.
- Hatch the egg after successfully applying the mutation.
- Do not assume a failed attempt means the egg cannot be mutated.
Getting a high-value pet with Rainbow and Fractured mutations in Steal An Egg can take quite a lot of grinding. The 10% success chance makes the process heavily dependent on luck, so having plenty of Boss Tokens and Mutation Consumables is important.
The effort can pay off, though. In this attempt, the large On Tiger eventually received the desired mutation after around 11 attempts and hatched into a Rainbow + Fractured pet worth around 88B per second. That ended up being the most valuable pet from the run and made all those failed mutation attempts worth it.
