Fisch Obsidian Trench Bestiary Guide: All Fish, Bait, Weather, and Seasons

The Obsidian Trench is one of the hidden areas found inside Mariana’s Veil in Fisch. Reaching it requires more than simply traveling to the location, as players first need to complete the Awakening Ritual and unlock access to the underground area.

Once inside, you’ll find 12 unique fish that make up the Obsidian Trench Bestiary. Each fish has different requirements involving bait, weather, time, and season, so completing the collection can take some planning.

How to Reach Obsidian Trench in Fisch

Before you can enter the Obsidian Trench, you need to progress through the Mariana’s Veil content and obtain all five Gauntlets. These are connected to the Ignis, Glacius, Tenebris, Luminis, and Resonus NPCs found across the different layers of Mariana’s Veil.

After collecting the required Gauntlets, you can proceed with the Awakening Ritual. This unlocks the next part of the area and eventually gives you access to the hidden entrance leading toward the Obsidian Trench.

There is also a unique riddle requirement involved with opening the underground entrance. You need to catch the fish connected to your Unique riddle and bring it to the Obsidian Pocket. Once the required condition is satisfied, the underground door can be opened, allowing you to enter the Obsidian Trench.

If you haven’t completed the Mariana’s Veil progression yet, focus on unlocking the five Gauntlets first. There is no shortcut to simply entering the Trench before completing the required Awakening progression.

How to Catch All 12 Obsidian Trench Fish

The Obsidian Trench Bestiary contains 12 fish ranging from Common all the way to Apex rarity. Several of the rarer fish have very specific conditions, so it’s worth preparing the correct bait and waiting for the required weather or season before fishing.

Tips for Completing the Obsidian Trench Bestiary

The biggest challenge with this Bestiary isn’t necessarily finding the fishing spot. Instead, the difficult part is matching the correct combination of bait, weather, time, and season for each fish.

Start by catching the Common and Uncommon fish whenever their conditions are active. Pumice Puffer, Scoria Scorpionfish, and Ash-cloud Angelfish have relatively straightforward requirements, making them useful targets while you’re waiting for conditions needed for rarer catches.

For the Rare and Legendary fish, keep the necessary bait in your inventory before heading into the Trench. This prevents you from wasting a suitable weather window because you don’t have the required bait available.

The Mythical, Exotic, and Apex fish should generally be treated as special targets. Shatterjaw Shark requires rain at night, while Skolopendra can appear during rain or foggy weather in Autumn or Winter. Veiled Charybdis is slightly different, requiring nighttime conditions and either a Meteor or Sea Beetle as bait.

Completing the Obsidian Trench Bestiary is important if you’re working toward obtaining the Chasm-Stalker Rod. The rod isn’t available simply by having enough C$ in your account.

To become eligible to purchase the Chasm-Stalker Rod, you must first complete the entire Obsidian Trench Bestiary. This means catching all 12 fish listed above and filling out the collection.

Once the Bestiary requirement has been completed, you’ll still need a substantial amount of money. The Chasm-Stalker Rod costs C$5,000,000, so finishing the Bestiary is only one part of the requirements.

Because of the rod’s high price, it’s a good idea to work on your money farming at the same time as completing the Obsidian Trench collection. That way, you won’t have to start from zero after finally finishing all 12 entries.
