Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown Begins Pre-Registration for Closed Beta Test!

A few months after announcing Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown as a new mobile game in development, Bandai Namco is now seeking participants for its CBT. Players can get a taste of the storyline introduction that has been discussed, despite the fact that many details remain a mystery.

The Game Tells an Original Story!

Variant Showdown seems to be another version of the anime story that features the main character from the franchise, Kirito who finds rumours about a game called Cross Edge at Dicey Cafe. This rumour stated that an unknown player attacked another player, this is what made Kirito, Asuna and the others finally work together to find that player, which is the start of the game story.

Interesting Combat Mechanic:

Variant Showdown takes 3D action combat RPG gameplay and tests players’ reflexes to press the right button at the right time to counter the monster moves. A little gameplay trailer can be seen in the video below:

From the 7th to the 16th of May, Variant Showdown’s official website will host a Closed Beta for those who are interested. In total, more than 10,000 lucky people will be able to participate in the beta, which begins on June 10 and ends on June 14.

If nothing goes wrong, Bandai Namco will likely release the game this year, but there is very little information available about the exact release date.
