The Portal Skills Guide, All Cleric, Enchanter, Defender and Warrior Guide!
Skills are an important part of combat in The Portal, especially because each job role has access to different abilities. Some skills are available to everyone, while others are locked to specific roles such as Cleric, Enchanter, Defender, and Warrior. Choosing the right skills can make a big difference depending on how you play. Here is a complete breakdown of the currently available skills, including how to obtain them and what each ability does.
Universal Skills
Universal Skills can be used by every job role in The Portal. These abilities are useful regardless of whether you prefer melee combat, magic, support, or tanking.
Bash
You can obtain the Bash Skill Book from Neria’s Shop.
Bash is a melee attack with an additional effect that depends on the weapon you are using. It cannot be used with Staves or Daggers.
- Sword: Applies Slow to enemies.
- Blunt Weapon: Applies Stun to enemies.
This makes Bash particularly useful for controlling enemies while dealing physical damage.
Bless
The Bless Skill Book is available from Neria’s Shop.
Bless temporarily increases the base stats of nearby allies. The buff affects:
- Strength
- Vitality
- Agility
- Dexterity
- Intelligence
- Wisdom
This is a useful support ability for parties that rely on multiple players working together.
Mana Shield
You can purchase the Mana Shield Skill Book from Neria’s Shop.
Mana Shield creates a magical barrier around yourself or a selected ally. The barrier blocks incoming attacks, with higher skill levels allowing it to absorb more attacks.
This is one of the more useful defensive skills for difficult encounters where surviving heavy attacks is important.
Sacrifice
The Sacrifice Skill Book can also be purchased from Neria’s Shop.
Sacrifice consumes some of your HP in exchange for MP. This gives players another way to restore their mana when they need to continue using abilities.
Because it costs HP, use it carefully, especially during difficult fights.
Mastery Skills
Mastery Skill Books can be purchased from Neria’s Shop. These abilities provide permanent improvements based on the type of weapon or combat style you use.
- Sword Mastery: Increases Sword damage.
- Dagger Mastery: Increases Dagger damage and Critical Rate.
- Blunt Mastery: Increases Blunt damage and Armor Penetration.
- Staff Mastery: Increases Magic damage and MP regeneration.
- Critical Mastery: Increases Critical damage and Critical Hit Rate.
Pick Mastery skills that match your main weapon instead of spending resources on abilities you rarely use.
Cleric Skills
Clerics have access to several support and magic-based abilities. These skills make the class particularly useful for keeping a party alive while also dealing damage.
Heal
The Heal Skill Book can be purchased from Neria’s Shop. Heal I and Heal II are available there, while Heal II can also rarely drop from certain enemies.
Heal restores HP to yourself or a selected ally. Once the skill reaches Tier III, it also unlocks an area healing effect.
Its effectiveness is based on your Wisdom stat, making Wisdom an important stat for Clerics who want stronger healing.
Holy Wounds
Holy Wounds can be learned by purchasing its Skill Book from Neria’s Shop.
The skill summons objects that automatically target enemies and deal damage. Charging the ability for longer causes more objects to appear, increasing its potential damage.
Aurora Wave
The Aurora Wave Skill Book is available from Neria’s Shop.
Aurora Wave continuously launches projectiles toward nearby enemies. While the skill is active, it consumes MP every second and reduces your movement speed.
You can either allow the attack to continue or manually stop it. Its damage scales with your Wisdom stat.
Enchanter Skills
Enchanters focus on magic damage and buffs that improve the performance of allies.
Entangle
The Entangle Skill Book can be purchased from Neria’s Shop.
Entangle summons vines underneath a target, dealing Earth Magic damage. The vines also have a chance to root the enemy in place.
At Tier III, Entangle becomes an area-of-effect ability, allowing it to hit multiple enemies. Its damage scales with Intelligence.
Enchant Weapon
Enchant Weapon temporarily increases the damage dealt by an ally’s weapon or your own weapon.
As the skill level increases, its effects improve in several ways. The buff can eventually affect nearby allies, last longer, and provide a larger damage bonus.
This makes it a valuable ability for party-based content where multiple players rely on physical damage.
Meteor Shower
The Meteor Shower Skill Book currently has an unconfirmed acquisition method.
This ability summons meteors over a selected area, dealing Fire Magic damage to enemies caught inside.
Higher skill levels increase the number of meteors, which also improves the total damage. The ability scales with Intelligence.
Defender Skills
Defenders are designed around durability, crowd control, and protecting their party.
Iron Wall
The acquisition method for Iron Wall has not been confirmed yet.
Iron Wall increases the DEF stat of nearby allies for a limited period. Increasing the skill level improves both the DEF bonus and its duration.
The effectiveness of the buff scales with your Vitality stat.
Whirlwind
Whirlwind is another Defender skill with an unconfirmed acquisition method.
The ability makes your character spin and attack nearby enemies, dealing Physical Wind damage while also applying Taunt.
It scales with Vitality and can generate additional aggro, making it useful when you need to keep enemies focused on your character.
Timber Charge
The acquisition method and full effects of Timber Charge have not been confirmed yet.
More information about this skill is expected as additional details become available.
Warrior Skills
Warriors specialize in physical damage and offensive buffs. Their skills are designed around close-range combat and improving the damage output of themselves or their allies.
Blade Fury
The acquisition method for Blade Fury is currently unconfirmed.
Blade Fury performs three consecutive attacks that deal Neutral Physical damage.
The ability can only be used with Swords and Blunt weapons, and its damage scales with your Strength stat.
Battle Cry
The acquisition method for Battle Cry has not been confirmed yet.
Battle Cry temporarily increases the damage of nearby allies. However, the ability consumes MP every second while active.
The amount of damage gained from the buff depends on your Strength stat.
Blade Circuit
The acquisition method and effects of Blade Circuit are currently unconfirmed.
More details about this Warrior skill have yet to be revealed.
Which Skills Should You Get First?
The best skills depend on your role and the type of content you play. Universal Skills are generally the easiest place to start because they remain useful even if you change jobs later.
For a simple starting point:
- Melee players: Bash and the appropriate Weapon Mastery are good early choices.
- Support players: Bless, Mana Shield, and Heal are useful for keeping allies alive.
- Clerics: Focus on Heal and Wisdom-based skills.
- Enchanters: Entangle and Enchant Weapon provide both damage and party utility.
- Defenders: Iron Wall and Whirlwind fit defensive and aggro-focused builds.
- Warriors: Blade Fury and Battle Cry are strong choices for physical damage builds.
- Magic users: Staff Mastery and skills that scale with Intelligence can improve overall damage.
The Portal has a wide selection of skills, and the best choices will depend heavily on your job role and build. Universal Skills provide useful options for every player, while class-specific abilities allow each role to specialize further. Before buying Skill Books, check which stats and weapons the ability scales with. This helps prevent wasting resources on skills that do not fit your current build. As more skills become available, experimenting with different combinations should also help you find a setup that works best for your preferred playstyle.
