Apple is now preparing to introduce its new iPhone 14 series later this year. Despite rumours pointing to problems in component supply, the launch of new Apple devices is still expected for September. According to the latest leak, the iPhone 14 keynote will take place on September 13. During the event, the company will also present a new Apple Watch Series.

This year, Apple will ditch the mini variant and replace it with a new, larger model. The four devices will be named, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max. The new iPhone 14 Max is just vanilla with a bigger screen, and maybe a bigger battery. The differences between the non-Pro and Pro variants will also be significant this year, as only the Pro model is rumoured to carry the Apple A16 SoC.

The Pro model, according to a recent report, will also include some exclusive software features. Bloomberg’s renowned Mark Gurman revealed that the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will include an always-on display. This particular feature has been popularized with the Samsung Galaxy series, and not surprisingly, is available in the latest Galaxy S22 series.

In fact, nowadays, most smartphone brands offer their own take on the Always On Display. The only requirement to make it relevant is to have an OLED panel, and iPhones have been carrying this for years now. Rumors about implementing AOD on iOS have been circulating for years. After many claims, it seems that Apple has finally introduced it. The only problem is that it seems to be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. The AOD feature is especially useful in AMOLED displays.

However, OLED screens have pixels that light up individually. Therefore, the battery consumption in this kind of device is small.
